Transparency For All? AKA: What is the Daily Astorian hiding now?

Another opportunity for Clatsop County citizens to show their political savvy and flout the self serving advice dripping from the jowls of the Astorian's arrogant editors has descended on us with the upcoming elections. Ballots are due May 18th, and while the Cartons have remained politically silent for quite a while now, it has come to our attention that a movement is afoot that we should bring to our fellow Dried Salmon County inhabitants' attention.

Many people have taken to the habit of writing in names of various Disney characters, or an in-law they have no particular love for, in opposition to someone they perceive as a shady character on a ballot. The problem with doing this is that no one sees the clever name that has been penned in except a tired ballot counter who has seen it all and no longer finds any amusement in it.

You want to truly hurt someone who is running unopposed? Don't vote for ANYONE, do NOT write in anyone, especially in the primaries when they have to run again in the regular elections in November. This is called an UNDERVOTE. If the UNDERVOTES are anywhere close to the number that actually vote for the person running unopposed it is HUMILIATING for that person. It tells their party that they are not bankable. It also tells others that they can run a successful write-in campaign against the person and that the person's political party isn't going to expend any money on him keep him in his seat.

So, say, for instance, a certain district attorney was perceived as being selfish, self serving, egotistical, criminally inclined, ethically challenged, vengeance bound, neurotic and bent on destroying all those who have ever opposed him on any issue thereby making it difficult to find anyone to run against him. One way to show that the public was done with a tyrant like this would be to give the public the knowledge of the UNDERVOTE.

It would be clearly understood that with a good showing of the UNDERVOTE a certain group of people would take that tally and be able to convince an attorney (even one from another area of Oregon) that beating such a publicly reviled creature is doable and there is monetary backing for such a venture.

Not that the Cartons are advocating that each person reading now, print this out and share with all your friends and neighbors this information, imploring them to leave the box next to the district attorney blank. We are not politically inclined these days. We are not advocating that you tell everyone to do this immediately, before it is too late and they waste their ballot.

Nor do we wish to remind everyone that the three one-trick-ponies, running against incumbent commissioners, who no longer have LNG to oppose, meet together often with Taylor and "chain" it all the way to Hood River, getting their marching orders for our area from people far removed from us and what profits those of us who have families and need wages here and now.

Far be it from us to remind everyone that while perhaps Bradwood may have left a $180,000 bill behind it was the groups these three come from who chased them away with what is finally being investigated as illegal activities by, so far: the IRS, the Oregon State Bar and the Marion County District Attorney's office.

And far be it from us to remind everyone that while there may be a small bill left behind 1) The commissioners have little to do with the day to day operations of running the county, bills collected and paid are the Manager's and Planning department's headache. Ask Ed Wagner why he allowed the bill to go so high 2) We still are waaaay ahead of 33 other counties in the state of Oregon in terms of being in the black rather than the red and that is due entirely to the practices set in place by the Commissioners four years ago.

The grapevine says the red team will be gathering their herd of retirees, trust fund babies and ssi disability retainers to attack the County Commission meeting on Wednesday morning while all the rest of us are at work. We don't see how the working class can be expected to take an early lunch at 10 am to get to the meeting and make our voices heard.

There is the option of writing a note telling the BOCC how we feel about the illegal maneuvers used to oust Bradwood out of the permitting process and asking if any of the three contenders or Rohne knew of Foster's involvement. Were they present at any meeting with political overtones where this state employee (Foster) was present? All four say they are all about OPEN TRANSPARENCY! Depending on how they avoid the question will show how they will avoid transparency once they are in office.

When emailing the BOCC with our letters, sending a copy of it to KAST, NorthCoastOregon, the Seaside Signal, Canon Beach Gazette, and the Daily Astorian is also something that we do not want to be accused of encouraging everyone to do.

So, in brief, the Cartons are still staying pretty quiet on the political front. We are not advocating for anything. Not us saying that you should UNDERVOTE in regards to the District Attorney, nor question Dirk Rohne, Scott Lee, Peter Huhtala, or Debra Birkby about how much they knew regarding Brent Foster's activities last year, nor email any media outlet to share your outrage. And definitely don't print this blog page out and share it with your neighbors, co-workers, family, friends, or plaster the town and coffee houses with it.

Great post! Our DA has majorly worn out his welcome here....what a power hungry person at all cost, mostly to this community. If you look far enough he's behind just about every recall, and referendum, our community is not a better place because he's here, I'll be undervoting, and telling everyone I know to do the same.

The da thinks he's a shoe-in, and doesn't have to answer to the voter's.
He brings nothing to the table, other then grief!

These local PoDunks know NADA about Foster's Hijinx. If you notice, anytime HoodRiver wants something done they have to send their people here, they do not trust the locals to get anything done right. Even with this election they have their people, once again, manning the phones! There's no way any of them were trusted with anything on the other side of the mountain. Anything, that is, aside from their $$$!

You guys are sick.

Sick about what? THE TRUTH? Sure we are.

You one of those clowns going around unidentified, stinking fliers on windshields pimping Kris Kaino as a Write-in for CCDA?

Isn't that illegal and don't you know Kaino in not an Oregon resident and he is not likely to give up his, what is it, Pacific County heritage and Royalty to move to Clatsop County, much less be subjected to the likes of your ilk, you think?

And for the record, present at least one specific, irrefuteable example of each of your accusations of this certain Destrict Attorney we all know who you are referring to..."So, say, for instance, a certain district attorney was perceived as being selfish, self serving, egotistical, criminally inclined, ethically challenged, vengeance bound, neurotic and bent on destroying all those who have ever opposed him"

Oh brother, so what is if kaino lives in WA? He is a damm good attorney.
I don't think you need to keep asking about the da, can't you read Mcgee.? He is not well liked in our community!
Don't you remember, how he hunted the maclaren family??? That was pure vengeance. Try to remember when you were against the DA? What made you flip, are you not man enough to tell the people why? If my memory serves me right, you were all for Susan's cause!
Talk about hiding your reason, are you afraid to say why you flipped your views.
Susan worked real hard helping the innocent mclarens!! Do you really think it was justice for all hunting innocent people? He spent the voters money to track her every move.
Also,Dr. William Mciver was railroaded by the da, another innocent person!!!
What about the innocent Indian family across the river?
What about all of the other innocent people who are actually afaid to speak up? There are many!!

LOL~ First of all the post CLEARLY states to leave it BLANK so OBVIOUSLY the syds were NOT in any way part of the Kaino crusade.

Second of all, SHOW the ORS that states the DA must LIVE IN OREGON. All it says is he must have a license to PRACTICE in Oregon, which Kaino HAS.

Thirdly, the post isn't accusing the DA of anything. The post clearly says if "a certain da is PERCEIVED as being ..." you know, McGee, just like the little campaign that went something like "go ahead recall the guy, YOU know why".

The medicine you make always tastes bitter when you have to take it yourself.

And finally, if it is sooooo illegal, as you always say, take it to the authorities and make charges or quit your chicken hearted bitching.

The State Elections Manual genius but, don't you just think common sense would tell you that an elected office of this calibre would require that one would be?

The again, I forget the perception of where I am, amongst genius and wit.

Jeesh!!

Excuse me.

And, it appears they didn't at the moment.

Go figure!

OK...the DA withdstanding...

Our County is now SCREWED for the next four years, thanks to the voter apathy here.

We will now have a NIMBY commission, which means absolutely nothing worth anything will be approved.

I am just blown away by this...and will probably be moving soon, even though I've lived here longer than all of them put together.

This is really scary folks...I hope you're happy!

Patrick McGee said...

Yeah, that's it Charles, instead of standing up and challenging them to provide the leadership we need so badly here you choose to run away?

You, the big badass know-it-all your portray yoursellf to be, you want to run away?

You are right, you are going to get the government you desreve then.

Of course, you may have to officially identify yourself to be counted in the discussion and debate to make a difference.

Charles said...

Oh don't worry McGee, I will definitely be paying attention to what these people do, and will challenge them when needed.

Just like the Anti-LNG people challenged the Commission who were following the law and doing their job.

I was having a "in the heat of the moment" moment when I said that I might move. Nope, not goin' anywhere. I don't plan on trying to start a business here, or build anything anytime soon, so probably won't have to worry about becoming a victim.

And McGee? It's none of your damned business who I am.

I know who you are and In truth, I don't care and your adding nothing to the debate is irrelevant as well but, you have every right to keep it at that, I agree.

COUNTY WIDE VOTE FOLKS....SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE QUIT THE PAPER, AND THE LYING DIRECT MAILERS THAT DID THE DEED WITH THIS ELECTIONS AND THE PAST RECALLS WOULD BE ALOT TOUGHER FOR THE LOCAL "OFFICIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY" TO PULL OFF EVEN WITH THE SUPPORT OF OUR POLITICALLY ACTIVE DA, ANYBODY KNOWS ANOTHER DA IN OREGON OR ANYWHERE THAT'S A PRECINCT PERSON?, CUZ WE GOT ONE!

And has for years. Don't you pay attention?

Funny things is, defunct Northern Star N.G.'s Peter Hackett ran for the same spot.

Uh-Oh!!!

I smell another "Witch Hunt" brewing, better get it to Victoria Taft fast for Monday's show.

Hell, she'll swallow anything thrown at her, it appears.

And mostly, the citizens of Clatsop County is they get off their apathetic asses and just simply pay attention.

That is, in my view, what unseated the current regime by a majority in every case by 49.6% of the county voting public, not some mind manipulating machine as implied by the losers and supporters.

Anonymous said...

Well, you'd think that, McGee, because you're basically out of touch with reality. Lee & Huhtala owe Forrester big time and they know it.

I would think "Anonym" that both owe a great deal of appreciation and gratitude to their soon to be constituents in their respective districts and those in the community on the whole who gave them their support.

If you noticed, both won handily by a significant majority.

Now, do you think Editor Forrester went out and twisted those voters arms to vote his way?

I know you may be desperate to find blame or justification for your loss but to me, it was just honest voting due simply to a loss of trust in that sitting County Commission.

I ask you as well, where was the turn-out in support of both Raichl and Hazen? Surely Editor Forrester didn't hold them hostage to prevent them from voting, you think?

Anonymous said...

You Dont "Think", McGee. That is your primary problem.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Hooter can become an opera singer...that would make Forrester happy to have a jestor that was an opera singer!!! Maybe if he was happy he would stop killing this town.....He owns them all except Patricia Roberts.....Rohne will probably be chair, he's been given enough handed scripts from the riverkeepers to kind of run a meeting. This is the most embarressing commission in the state of oregon, bar none, it's like crash dummies are in place before the big test drive! McGee says hold them accountable for leadership? OMG!!! , like they even know how anything happens here, do any of them know a logger or a fisheman? other than jack marincovich? good thing we're gettin' a bigger food bank!

The HELL with waiting 4 years! 1)If there's enough signers by September we can get it on the ballot to change either a)get rid of home rule b)change the way our commissioners are elected. We can still have 1 commissioner per area HOWEVER we should ALL vote for ALL FIVE since all five represent ALL of us. What good does it actually do having just the people of one area vote for that one person? What does that person do for "Just" their area? NADA, except for like Mushen holding his town meetings to bring BACK to the BOCC what we want. Or Samuelson insisting we need more help for our roads, but we need people who play well with others AND I know people in the Walluski area who are left high and dry with NO representation cause the person is always elected from the knappa area but supposedly he's supposed to represent them too. There's ALOT of areas around here like that with WEIRD districting. We should ALL be able to vote for ALL of em like on the college board or the port.

If none of that happens I don't like the way Debra wears her hair so she's getting a recall challenge July 11, 2011 (or thereabouts). My cousin says he HATES the way Huhtala wears his tie so Huhtala can expect a recall long about August 7, 2011. And my brother says Lee's girlfriend get's on his last nerve so Lee can expect his challenge around September 24, 2011. Iffen Debra somehow bribed her way through the first recall challenge I'll start gearin up for her October challenge as I truly dislike the length of her fingernails.

The upside of this is that there will be NOTHING happening in Clatsop County, so Forrester will have NOTHING to write about, of course he makes so much of it up it may become an even more creative writing piece. This county has likely never had such an inexperieced, less connected commission. With the needs here we don't have time for a learning curve, I expect that curve to be infinite for this group. McGee asks that we insist on them representing us, last time I checked a rubber chicken can't lay an egg, ridiculous I know, but ridiculous is my point.

I didn't have a clue that Ron Brown used to work with Marquis?
I also read Ron Brown made a mistake in one of Randy Guzek trials.
Can you shed any light Mcgee? After all aren't you good friends?
